Who is Palmer Advisory?
Nick Palmer
Palmer Advisory is led by Nick Palmer, CA, a finance leader and transformation advisor with 13 years' experience spanning KPMG, consulting, global finance transformation and business-unit CFO leadership.
After nine years working in France and across international businesses, Nick returned to Christchurch in 2026 and continues to provide businesses with direct access to experienced finance expertise - without the layers of a traditional consulting model.
Nick works directly with CEOs, CFOs and finance teams, from strategic advice and performance improvement through to hands-on delivery of complex finance and technology change.

When to bring us in
You have the numbers, but not the insight you need to make better decisions.
You know Finance needs to modernise, but aren't sure where to start — people, process, data or technology.
Budgeting, forecasting and reporting take too long — and still don't give management a clear view of performance or cashflow.
You have an important project or period of change to navigate, but your leadership team doesn't have the capacity or specialist expertise to lead it - ERP, EPM, CRM or BI.
Your finance processes, spreadsheets and systems are unreliable, heavy or no longer scale with the business.
You need experienced CFO-level input or an independent sounding board, without adding another permanent senior hire.
A different kind of consulting partner.
When the business needs senior finance capability beyond the day-to-day — whether that's an experienced perspective on a strategic decision, additional leadership capacity, a step-change in financial performance, or someone to take ownership of an important transformation. We can support a specific need or build a longer-term relationship as the business evolves.
When does it make sense to bring in Palmer Advisory?
1
Often alongside them. A strong finance leader may need additional capacity, specialist experience or simply an independent perspective. We can act as a sounding board, strengthen a particular area of Finance, or take ownership of a project that would otherwise compete with the day job. Where there is a leadership gap, we can also step into a fractional or interim role.
I already have a CFO or Finance Manager. Where do you fit?
2
We help businesses improve how they plan, forecast, understand performance and support decisions — from KPIs and management reporting through to consolidation, FP&A and the tools and data behind them. Sometimes relatively small changes make a significant difference; sometimes a broader redesign is needed.
How can you help us get more from our finance function?
3
We're considering a new finance system or major transformation. Where would you fit in?
4
We can help your team define the requirement, redesign processes, select the right solution and lead delivery — bringing Finance, operations, IT, software vendors and implementation partners together. We're independent of technology providers, so the starting point is what the business needs rather than a predetermined solution.
